Storrs, CT- The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team
dropped its final game of the 2001 season to visiting Vanderbilt by a
score of 12-6 today at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, CT. The Huskies
finish the year 3-13 overall while Vandy completes the season with a
record of 5-11.
The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the game behind a pair
of goals from senior Megan Campbell (Phoenixville, PA). The Commodores
answered with goals from Jeannie Crawley and April Tellam to tie the
game. Sophomore Susan Payne (Penn Yan, NY) then gave the Huskies the
lead again at the 22:02 mark. It was the Huskies final goal of the
half and the last time UConn would lead. Vanderbilt closed the half
with four straight goals with two more from Tellam and another pair
>from Jessica Roguski.
Tara Schmucker added to Vanderbilt's lead with a goal just over five
minutes into the second stanza before the Huskies mounted a brief
comeback. Abby Morgan (West Chester, PA) scored two goals and Jody
Nickerson (Skaneateles, NY) added another in a four-minute span to
bring UConn within one but the Huskies were unable to further
threaten. Vandy opened a five-goal run at 16:54 to give the Commodores
a final 12-6 advantage. Tellam brought her goal total to five in the
run as Mary McCeney tallied two scores and Amanda Rice recorded one.
UConn's April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) had nine stops in the
effort while Vanderbilt's Emily Lough had 13 saves.
