STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut Women's Lacrosse seniors Stephanie Norton and Kiersten Tupper have both been named recipients of the Academic Momentum Award, presented nationally to just 49 student-athletes.
Top nominations were categorized into three teams based on each student-athlete's academic improvement and the impact each student-athlete's academic performance had on his or her classmates, teammates, academic advisors, and professors.
Norton, a senior defender from Amherst, N.H., was placed on the AMA Second Team while Tupper, a senior attack, earned a spot on the AMA Third Team.
Norton, who will graduate with a degree in Environmental Engineering, appeared in 11 games as a junior, helping the Huskies to a 9-7 record and a 3-5 mark in the BIG EAST Conference.
Tupper is on pace to graduate with a degree in Human Development and Family Studies. Last season, the Camillius, N.Y., native ranked third on the team with 35 points. She added 19 goals to go with a team-high 16 assists.
The Huskies open the season on February 18 in Storrs when they host Iona at 1 p.m. at the Sherman Sports Complex.
