STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team welcomes Fairfield for a mid-week clash on Wednesday afternoon at the Sherman Family Complex. The Valentine’s Day tilt is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
As part of the team’s home opener, free hot chocolate will be provided during the game on a first-come, first-serve basis. Also to celebrate Wednesday’s holiday, the Huskies will be giving away UConn Lacrosse Valentine’s Day cards.
A Win Would…
A Win on Wednesday would give Connecticut (0-1) its first win of the season. The Huskies are 5-2 in home openers under Head Coach Katie Woods.
Last Time Out
Senior Grace Nolan notched a game-high six points with four goals and two assists in a 23-11 loss for UConn at No. 7 Syracuse on February 9. Freshman Sydney Watson added to the offensive effort with five points (4g, 1a) in her collegiate debut. The midfielder finished the day with five points and won a game-high eight draw controls.
Leading The Pack
Grace Nolan and Sydney Watson are pacing the Huskies with four goals apiece. Nolan headlines the squad with six points and two helpers, while Watson has won eight draw controls. Senior Cassie Ektrom is leading the defensive unit with four ground balls and senior goalkeeper Madison Hooper ranks first with two caused turnovers.
The Stags, who are currently 1-0 this season, head into Wednesday’s tilt looking for their first road win of the spring. Fairfield opened the season last weekend with an easy 14-5 win against Holy Cross. Kathleen Hulseman is boasting a team-leading three goals and three assists for six points and is locked with three teammates in ground balls with four.
UConn owns an 11-4 clip in the all-time series against Fairfield. The squads last met in 2017 where the Huskies recorded a 16-12 victory.
Freshman Sydney Watson garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades after a five-point (4g, 1a) performance against No. 7 Syracuse on Feb. 9.
