STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team is back in action this weekend, as UConn hosts Quinnipiac on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the George J. Sherman-Family Sports Complex.

The Huskies (0-1) fell to No. 12 UMass, 7-5, in their season opener last week despite four goals from Lauren Kahn (Nanuet, N.Y.). The senior midfielder scored three consecutive goals in the second half to pull UConn within one score, but it wasn’t enough as the Huskies lost at home for the first time in eight games.

Goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after making eight saves and recording four ground balls against UMass. The UConn sophomore stopped both free position attempts by the Minutewomen, who averaged over 14 goals a game in 2013.

Connecticut sports a 28-15 all-time record against in-state opponents, including a 14-2 record against Quinnipiac. The Huskies defeated the Bobcats, 20-6, last season, getting four goals from sophomore midfielder Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) and three from senior midfielder Kacey Pippitt (New Canaan, Conn.).

Saturday’s contest will be the first game of the season for Quinnipiac. The Bobcats, who open their 2014 campaign with three straight road games, went 3-6 last year away from home.

Quinnipiac junior attacker Kyra Ochwat was named to the MACC Preseason All-Conference Team last week after leading the Bobcats with 41 goals in 2013. She was also second on the team in points (59) and assists (18).
