Women's Lacrosse Drops Game To Quinnipiac, 10-6

STORRS, Conn. (March 4, 2008) - Whitney Michele (East Rochester, N.Y.) tallied three goals, but the University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team fell to Quinnipiac, 10-6, Tuesday afternoon at the George J. Sherman Family-Sports Complex. With the loss, the Huskies fall to 0-2 on the year while the Bobcats improve to 2-0 over all.


Kim McGinty (Huntington, N.Y.) also had a multi-goal game with two tallies, while Katy Ryan (Hamburg, N.Y.) had one.


After nearly nine minutes of scoreless action, Ashley Valentine struck first for Quinnipiac, scoring at 21:09 for the early lead. Ryan's score tied the game at one, but the Bobcats jumped out on a 5-0 run to go up 6-1 by the 2:11 mark in the first half. Michele's first of two free position goals cut into the lead, 6-2, as the teams headed into halftime.


The Huskies opened the second period with two of the first three goals to pull within three, at 7-4, but could get no closer the rest of the way.


UConn out-shot Quinnipiac, 23-21, and held a 23-17 advantage in ground balls and a 10-8 margin in draw controls.


The Huskies return to action Friday, Mar. 7 at 3:00 p.m. at New Hampshire. The contest is the first of six consecutive road games for the Huskies, lasting until their Mar. 23 meeting with Notre Dame at the Sherman Complex.
