STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse team is set to open BIG EAST play this Friday, March 22nd against Syracuse at 3:00 pm in the Carrier Dome. The Huskies are off to the best start in program history, as they enter the contest with a 6-0 record.
UConn is coming off last week’s 19-8 victory against Binghamton in Storrs, led by Kacey Pippitt who scored four goals in the contest and added an assist. Pippitt’s play earned her a spot on this week’s BIG EAST Honor Roll.
The Huskies have had no shortage of BIG EAST honors this season, as last week junior Lauren Kahn picked up her second consecutive BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award. Kahn is tied with her teammate Pippitt for fifth in the BIG EAST with an average of 2.67 goals per contest. Kahn also ranks third in the league with 2.33 assists per game.
Freshman keeper Shannon Nee has been an important piece of the puzzle this season, as she has started all six games and holds a 5-0 record. Nee has logged 259 minutes of action this season, which is 186 more than the next closest keeper. Nee has 25 of the team’s 39 saves this season.
Last season, UConn fell 20-8 at home to the Orange. Syracuse’s 20 goals marked the second highest total allowed by Connecticut all year. Overall, the Huskies earned a 3-4 mark in BIG EAST play and finished the year 10-6. This season the Orange are 3-2 overall and 1-1 when playing in the Carrier Dome. The matchup with Connecticut will also mark Syracuse’s first BIG EAST game.
UConn will return home to Storrs following the contest when it takes on Oregon at George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on March 26th at 4:00 pm.
