Huskies Host Cincinnati Saturday

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s lacrosse team resumes conference play Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. when it hosts Cincinnati at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.

Coming off their second loss of the season, the Huskies are currently 7-2 overall heading into Saturday’s match-up with a 1-0 record in Big East contests.

UConn snapped its three game win streak, dropping a 17-7 decision at Syracuse Tuesday. Seven different Huskies tallied goals against Syracuse. Senior Victoria Thompson (Ellicott City, Md.) and junior Molly O’Reilly (South Salem, N.Y.) notched their first goals of the season and freshman Cait Leary (Suffern, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal of her UConn career.

Senior Katherine Finkelston (Leonardtown, Md.) currently leads the pack with 36 points (32g, 4a) followed by sophomore Grace Nolan (Marcellus, N.Y.) with 33 points (26g, 7a) and junior Jacqueline Jordan (Los Gatos, Calif.) with 23 (11g, 12a).

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Nee (Lancaster, Pa.) has started in all nine contests for the Huskies, stopping 87 shots for a .521 save percentage and a 9.17 goals against average.


Cincinnati currently has a 4-6 overall record as it opens its 2016 conference slate against UConn Saturday. The Bearcats are currently riding a four game losing streak, with most recent loss coming against Louisville on March 22.



Megan Bell  leads the Bearcats with 32 points (20g, 12a) followed by Courtney Curtis with 18 points (13g, 5a) and Amanda Donovan with 16 (9g, 7a). Meh Gulmi has seen the most minutes in net for Cincinnati this season, starting in all 10 games and stopping 67 total shots for a .462 save percentage and an 8.27 goals against average.


UConn is undefeated 7-0 against Cincinnati in the all-time series between the Huskies and the Bearcats. The two met on Cincinnati’s home turf last season when the Huskies defeated the Bearcats 10-4 on March 29, 2015. Nolan, Jordan and senior Alyson Fazio (Methuen, Mass.) each tallied a pair of goals that game.


The Huskies will face two conference opponents on the road when they take on Marquette Saturday, April 9 and Temple on Wednesday, April 13.
