    STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut lacrosse team is set to travel to Piscataway, N.J. this Friday, April 5, to take on Rutgers at 3:00 pm, in the first of two huge conference games on tap for the weekend. After the Rutgers contest, UConn will travel to Villanova to take on the Wildcats on Sunday at 1:00 pm.

    The Huskies are coming off a thrilling 16-14 OT win against Oregon at home last Tuesday. Connecticut now sits at 7-1 overall, with the lone loss coming in a BIG EAST showdown against Syracuse. This weekend will be an important test for the Huskies, as they currently sit fifth in the BIG EAST standings.

    Lapham Ties Career Scoring Record; Women's Lax Falls at Rutgers, 14-5
    Senior M.E. Lapham tied the UConn scoring record with her 154th career goal but the Huskies fell, 14-5, at Rutgers today. With the loss, UConn dropped its record to 6-4 (0-3 BIG EAST). Rutgers improved to 6-4 (1-1 BIG EAST). Rutgers outscored Connecticut 10-1 in the opening 30 minutes.

    Huskies Stretch Winning Streak To Three Against Nova, 13-6
    The UConn women's lacrosse squad extended its winning streak to three games with a 13-6 victory over Villanova today at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs. UConn improved to 10-5 (3-4 BIG EAST) while Villanova dropped to 4-11 (2-5 BIG EAST). Senior attack M.E. Lapham notched her 200th point in a Connecticut uniform today.

    Rutgers is 8-2 (0-1 in BIG EAST play) this season and is led by junior Katrina Martinelli who has started nine of Rutgers’ 10 games this season and  leads the team in goals (25), points (31) and shots (49). Martinelli’s 25 goals currently puts her 36th in the NCAA and her 2.50 goals per game is good for sixth in the BIG EAST, ranking just ahead of UConn’s Kacey Pippit (2.38). Last season, the Huskies fell in a 14-5 contest on the road against the Scarlet Knights.

    The Huskies are led by junior Lauren Kahn, who was named to this week’s BIG EAST Honor Roll for her four point performance against Oregon on March 26th. In the game, Kahn also recorded five ground balls, four draw controls, and caused three opponent turnovers. Kahn leads the team in points (35) and is second in goals with 18, trailing only Pippit who has scored 19. The Huskies have dominated their opponents this season, holding a 111-76 edge in goals and holding a superb .507 shot percentage.

    On Sunday, UConn will face a Villanova team that holds a 5-4 overall record (0-1 in BIG EAST Play). The Wildcats are 3-0 this season at home and have won four of their last five games. In BIG EAST Play, the Wildcats fell 14-2 to No. 7 ranked Notre Dame on March 24th. Villanova has scored double-digit goals in eight of nine games this season.

    Connecticut is currently 4-1 this season when playing on the road, with its last road victory coming against Fairfield on March 9.

    After the weekend action, the Huskies return home to Storrs to take on Cincinnati on April 12th at 3:00 pm at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
