Women's Lacrosse Records A 14-2 Win Over Quinnipiac

Storrs, CT - The University of Connecticut women's lacrosse team used hat tricks from junior Kristen Williams (Levittown, NY) and sophomore Heather Bliss (Tully, NY) and goalkeeper April Pollock (North Syracuse, NY) gave up just two goals as the Huskies took a 14-2 win over visiting Quinnipiac University today at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, CT. With the win UConn raises its record to 3-11 overall while the Braves fall to 5-8.

Connecticut scored the first six goals of the game to jump to an immediate offensive advantage. UConn got on the board at 29:03 when Bliss scored. Kristen Williams had a hand in both of the following goals when she scored her first goal of the game at 23:15 off an assist from Bliss and then assisted on the following goal from Pam Lowie (Cortland, NY). The Huskies used two goals on free position shots from Christine Williams (Madison, CT) and Megan Campbell (Phoenixville, PA) to extend their lead. Freshman Tonya Acosta scored the first goal of her career at 6:50. The Braves scored their first goal at 9:01 when Marta Waldron found the back of the net. Kristen Williams scored the last two goals of the half to give UConn a seven-goal advantage.

Bonnie Wehinger (North Syracuse, NY) scored the first goal of the second half at 28:13 off a feed from freshman Kariane Lauri (Memphis, NY). Just over a minute later Lauri struck again with a goal of her own. Freshman Sarah Lageman tallied her first career goal at 24:50. Bliss scored the next two goals to bring her goal total to three and give the Huskies a 13-1 lead. Jody Nickerson (Wapiti, WY) continued the goal scoring trend when she scored at the 17:11 mark. Quinnipiac's Waldron scored her second goal and the last tally of the game with just under four minutes left to play.

UConn returns to action on May 1 when they travel to Georgetown. The game is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. The Huskies will play their final home game of the 2001 season on Saturday, May 5 when they host Vanderbilt at 1:00 p.m.
