Ekstrom and Nolan Garner IWLCA All-America Honors

June 14, 2018

STORRS, Conn. - Seniors Cassie Ekstrom and Grace Nolan of the UConn women's lacrosse team garnered All-American status as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Thursday afternoon. This marks the first time the Huskies have garnered multiple All-America honors in a single season.

Ekstrom, a four-year starter for the Huskies, leaves Storrs a Second Team All-American, while the program's all-time scoring leader, Nolan, adds Third Team All-American honors to her long list of accolades. The duo is two of 48 players to receive the national honor.

This marks the fifth year in the past six seasons UConn has earned IWLCA All-America accolades under Head Coach Katie Woods. The pair joins Shannon Nee (2016), Lauren Kwasnowski (2015) and two-time All-American Lauren Kahn (2014 & 2013).

Ekstrom, the 2018 BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, led UConn this season with a career-high 47 groundballs and 37 caused turnovers. The captain's 2.18 caused turnovers per game were a second best in the conference and ranked 11th overall in the NCAA. The Sandy Hook, Conn. native racked up a career-best 28 draws in her final season and concludes her collegiate career fourth all-time in ground balls (155) and fifth in career games played (68). Ekstrom graduates as a three-time IWLCA All-Northeast Region section and a two-time All-BIG EAST honoree.

Nolan's senior season was nothing short of extraordinary. In addition to rewriting the UConn record book, the 2018 BIG EAST Attacked of the Year solidified herself as one of the nation's top scorers. Nolan set a pair of single season program records in points (102) and goals (72), while her 6.00 points per game and 4.24 goals per game rank fourth and fifth, respectively, across the NCAA. On three occasions Nolan matched a program record, scoring eight goals in a single contest while her 11-point performances against Butler (March 8) and Cincinnati (April 13) put her atop in the record book as well. Nolan, a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection, now sits first all-time on the conferences career points (150) and goals (99) list. The Marcellus, N.Y. native, graduates UConn as the program's all-time leader in points (285) and goals (186).
