STORRS, Conn. – The team captains for the 2013-2014 season have been announced by Connecticut head coach Katie Woods, with four Huskies earning the positions.
Seniors Jordan Christopher, Lauren Kahn, Janet Tela and Kacey Pippitt were all chosen to captain a Connecticut team that is coming off of a historic season after reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history last year.
“Coming off such a strong season, I’m excited for them to lead this team and build off the momentum from last season,” Woods said.
Christopher, a midfielder from Pennsylvania, has scored 31 career goals for UConn. She started all but one game in her freshman year, and has accumulated 59 groundballs and 46 draw controls in her time at Connecticut.
Kahn, a midfielder from New York, scored 42 goals to go along with 23 assists last season, as she led the team in nearly every statistical category. She was named the Big East Women’s Lacrosse Midfielder of the Year and earned first team All-American honors from Synapse Sports.
Tela saw action in two games last season after playing in one game in 2012. Before coming to UConn, the Virginia native was on Inside Lacrosse-Magazine’s Top-35 Seniors Watch List after leading her high school team to the state semifinals in her junior year.
Pippitt scored a career-high 34 goals for Connecticut last season, as she started all 18 games for the Huskies. The midfielder from New Canaan has improved every year for UConn after starting five games her freshman year.
Each of the four captains bring great leadership to a Connecticut team that hopes to accomplish even more this season.
"I think we have four very strong captions this year,” Woods said. “They each have different leadership style and complement each other well."
