STORRS, Conn. - UConn women's lacrosse junior Dorian Gilmartin-Dzitko (Hillsborough, N.J.) has been named the first recipient from the University of Connecticut for a scholarship towards a study-abroad experience at the University of Economics in Prague (Czech Republic) for the summer of 2012. Gilmartin-Dzitko will study and train in Prague while assisting in the development of international lacrosse.
The scholarship opportunity is presented by Global Players, a study-abroad program developed by athletes for athletes. Global Players' scholarship program, "Play The Globe", is designed to give deserving student-athletes the opportunity to explore traditions, perceptions and concepts not found in their home culture while also helping to spread the game of lacrosse across the globe.
"She's someone that represents our program in every facet. She's a productive student-athlete who is always involved in the latest academic programs and she's also someone who steps on the field and puts it all out there every day," said UConn Head Coach Katie Woods.
Gilmartin-Dzitko has appeared in 14 games in two seasons at Storrs, starting two. She has notched six goals in her career for UConn. A history major, Gilmartin-Dzitko earned BIG EAST All-Academic honors as a sophomore.
