    MIAMI, Fla. - The University of Connecticut women's rowing varsity eight split two race pieces with the University of Miami on Wednesday morning in Miami Beach.

    The competiton against Miami was part of the team's annual spring break trip. UConn is headquartered at The Ronald W. Shane Center during the trip. The Shane Center is part of the Miami Beach Watersports Center, which iis a world class, state of the art facility with two boat houses, a Concept II ERG room and weight training room.

    UConn raced to a 0.2 second win in the crews' second 1300-meter race. The Huskies finished in 4:53.0, with Miami finishing second in 4:53.2. The Hurricanes captured the first race with a winning time of 4:50.1, followed by the UConn varsity eight in 4:57.4 , The UConn second varsity eight finished third in both races with times of 5:05.2 and 5:16.1.

    The UConn varsity eight included senior Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.), junior Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), senior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), senior Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), senior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), junior Audrey Squire (Kinnleon, N.J.), junior Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), senior Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.) and senior Michael-Ann Sevick (Simsbury, Conn.).


     

     

    The UConn secnd varsity included sophomore Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.), senior Liz Harsley (Riverdale, N.J.), senior Sylvia Czupi (Woodbridge, Conn.), freshman Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.), sophomore Jessica Chames (Hooksett, N.H.), sophomore Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.), junior Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.), sophomore Dana Haddad (Storrs, Conn.) and senior Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.).

    The UConn novice eight swept its two races against Miami. In the first race, the Husky novice finished in 5:08 followed by Miami in 5:24; in the second race UConn finished in 5:05 followed by Miami in 5:20.

    UConn's novice eight included freshman Melissa Soucie (Avon, Conn.), sophomore Kaitlyn Clarke (Tollan,d Conn.), freshman Hillary Wiles-Lafayette (Litchfield, Conn.), freshman Adrienne Barrett (West Granby, Conn.), sophomore Katie Visentin (Cheshire, Conn.), freshman DeeDe Cabrey (Fort Sill, Okla.), sophomore Carolyn Judge (Weston, Conn.), junior Ashley Burness (Hampton, N.H.) and freshman Elizabeth Sarant (Massapequa, N.Y.).

    "We were very pleased with the performance of all the UConn crews this morning," said head coach Jennifer Sanford-Wendry. "Each boat showed good early season speed, which we will hopefully build upon in the weeks to come."

    The Huskies ill continue their spring race season on Friday in Miami Beach with a scrimmage against the University of Rochester.
