Women's Rowing Kicks Off 2015 Spring Campaign with Scrimmage at Miami

MIAMI -
The University of Connecticut women's rowing team kicked off the 2015 spring campaign with a scrimmage against the University of Miami on Wednesday, March 18 on the Indian Creek waterway in Miami Beach, Fla.

The Hurricanes and Huskies faced off in a series of 750m pieces. The 1V8+ and 2V8+ raced towards the finish line area near the 5300 block of Indian Creek Drive, while the 4+ boats raced north of the 71ststreet bridge.

The Varsity 8 boats raced in four pieces with Miami's 1V8+ winning all four races. The Varsity 4 boats competed in four 2 ½ minute pieces, splitting . The Hurricanes won piece two and three, while UConn prevailed in piece one and four. To view the complete results, please CLICK HERE.


 

 

"Thanks to Miami for hosting the scrimmage," said 18th-year head coach Jennifer Wendry. "It was great racing by all and a good opportunity for us to compete in preparation for our upcoming 2k races. I was happy with how we rowed and made adjustments after each piece. I am looking forward to the Murphy Cup next weekend.

The UConn V4+ boat for the first two pieces was Elizabeth Tomasco (cox), Arielle Sherman (stroke), Aleksandra Torkelson (three), Meg Duva (two), and Mae Hanson (bow). The V4+ boat for the final two pieces was Elizabeth Tomasco (cox), Arielle Sherman (stroke), Mae Hanson (three), Meg Duva (two) and Alexandra Hill (bow).

The 2V4+ boat for the first two pieces was Kaltheen Snajer (cox), Courtney Dawless (stroke), Mikayla Hudson (three), Chisom Mokwuah (two) and Alexandra Hill (bow). The 2V4+ boat for the final two pieces was Kathleen Snajder (cox), Courtney Dawless (stroke), Mikayla Hudson (three), Chisom Mokwuah (two) and Alexsandra Torkelson (bow).

The varsity eight boat was Elise McCormick (cox), Laura Webster (stroke), Audrey Kelley (seven), Christine Latona (six), Rachel Signor (five), Kate Hughes (four), Nikoline Laidlaw (three), Haley Ullinger (two) and Brenna Conrad (bow).

The second varsity eight was Alex Coults(cox), Diana Gryszkiewicz (stroke), Abbie Viner (seven), Ally Hopson (six), Caitie Parsons (five) Kate Lavrentios (four), Shannon Cox (three), Teresa Starzecki (two) and Heather Norris (bow).

Next up, UConn heads to Camden, N.J. to compete in the Murphy Cup, hosted by Temple, set to take place on March 28.
