UConn Rowing Takes Three of Four on Sunday

The UConn rowing team hosted a race at home versus La Salle University and Marist College on Sunday morning. UConn raced four events and won three.

The varsity eight started the racing with a win, finishing at 7:39. Marist was second (7:55.23) followed by La Salle (8:05.83). Rowing for UConn in the varsity eight was senior Mikey Sevick (Simsbury, Conn.), senior Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.), junior Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), senior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), senior Jenny Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), senior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), junior Audrey Squire (Kinnelon, N.J.), junior Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.).

The novice eight was next and won with a time of 7:56. Marist was second (8:15.4) followed by the UConn B crew (8:37.1). Rowing for UConn in the A boat was freshman Liz Sarant (Massapequa, N.Y.), freshman Melissa Soucie (Avon, Conn.), sophomore Kaitlyn Clarke (Tolland, Conn.), freshman Dee Dee Cabrey (Fort Sill, Okla.), freshman Adrienne Barrett (West Granby, Conn.), sophomore Katie Visentin (Cheshire, Conn.), freshman Hillary Wiles-Lafayette (Litchfield, Conn.), sophomore Carolyn Judge (Weston, Conn.) and freshman Brittany DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.). Rowing for UConn in the B boat was freshman Amanda Collins (Harrisville, R.I.), freshman Jess Motta (Norwood, Mass.), freshman Kelly Macko (Bolton, Mass.), sophomore Meredith Malinn (Norwood, Mass.), freshman Mara Gauger (Winsted, Conn.), freshman Bethany Stokes (Rockville, Md.), sophomore Natasha Aekus Whitingham, Vt.), freshman Rosie Steffen (Guilford, Conn.) and sophomore Meghan McCarthy (Fairfield, Conn.).



In the junior varsity eight race, UConn fell to Marist but beat La Salle. Marist won with a time of 7:41, UConn was second in 7:45.61 and La Salle was third in 8:17.85. Rowing for UConn was senior Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.), sophomore Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.), senior Liz Harsley (Riverdale, N.J.), senior Sylvia Czupi (Woodbridge, Conn.), sophomore Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.), sophomore Jessica Chames (Hooksett, N.H.), sophomore Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.), junior Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.) and sophomore Dana Haddad (Storrs, Conn.).

The final race of the day was the varsity four. UConn A won (8:30) followed by La Salle (8:40.71), UConn B (8:54.05) and Marist (9:05.1). Rowing in UConn's "A" crew was sophmore Brittanie Reinold (Sutton, Mass.), sophomore Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.), senior Kristen Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Mary Fowler (Milford, Conn.) and junior Amanda Cote (Wakefield, R.I.). In the UConn "B" crew was sophomore Lindsay Sutherland (Willington, Conn.), sophomore Sara Trevisani Duxbury, Mass.), sophomore Kylie Angell (Trumbull, Conn.), sophomore Ashley Kalinauskas (Vernon, Conn.) and junior Ashley Burness (Hampton, N.H.).

UConn will race again next Saturday at home, vs Trinity and Coast Guard. Races begin at 7:30 a.m.
