    KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team finished in third place at the annual Yankee Cup competition on Saturday. Massachusetts won the competition followed by Rhode Island, UConn and New Hampshire.

    The UConn varsity eight finished third in a time of 6:57.8 and that boat consisted of sophomore Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), sophomore Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), junior Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.), junior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.),  sophomore Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.),  junior Sylvia Czupi (Woodbridge, Conn.),  junior Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), junior Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.) and junior Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.).

    Rhode Island won that race in 6:57.8 followed by Massachusetts in 6:53.5 and New Hampshire was fourth in 6:57.9.

    UConn's second varsity eight finished third in 7:16.1 behind Rhode Island in 6:58.00 and UMass in 7:04.6 while New Hampshire was fourth in 8:11.6. The Huskies boat in that race was junior Julie Konstantino (Orange, Conn.), junior Kristen Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), sophomore Audrey Squire (Kinnelon, N.J.), junior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), freshman Jessica Chames (Hookset, N.H.), junior Liz Harsley (Riverdale, N.J.), sophomore Taylor Hoige (Baldwinsville N.Y.) and sophomore Hailey Rosa (Mansfield, Conn.).


     

     

    The Husky novice eight boat finished second in a time of 7:18.3 while UMass won the race in 7:14.5, Rhode Island was third in 7:29.5 and the UMass B team posted a time of 8:08. The UConn novice eight boat was freshman Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.), freshman Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.), freshman Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.), freshman Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.),  junior Elizabeth Bernard (Bridgeport, Conn.), senior Amy Kessler (Bridgewater, N.J.), junior Katherin Siracusa (Storrs, Conn.), freshman Dana Haddad (Storrs, Conn.) and freshman Sara Trevisani (Duxbury, Mass.)

    The UConn varsity four finished in fourth place in 8:24.25 behind UMass (7:44.17), Rhode Island (7:58.83) and New Hampshire (8:06.02). That boat was freshman Kylie Angell (Trumbull, Conn.), sophomore Diana Ramirez (El Monte, Calif.), freshman Rosanna Edreira (Newburgh, N.Y.), freshman Ashley Kalinauskas (Vernon, Conn.) and junior Michael-Ann Sevick (Simsbury, Conn.).

    UConn will compete Sunday morning in Philadelphia against St. Joseph's and Dayton and Sunday afternoon against Villanova.
