Huskies Enjoy Great Day At Murphy Cup

The UConn varsity eight was third in the petite final.

PHILDELPHIA - The University of Connecticut varsity eight boat finished third in the petite final and the second varsity eight finished in the grand final as the Husky rowing team competed at the Murphy Cup on Saturday. With their finishes, the varsity eight was ninth out of 18 crews while the varsity was fourth out of 17.

The UConn second varsity eight finished in a time of 7:10.6 in the final while Navy won, followed by Buffalo and Drexel and the Huskies topped Bucknell and Fordham. Drexel won the varsity eight petite in 6:55.22 while the Huskies were third in 6:59.74. Rutgers was second and UConn topped Colgate, LaSalle and Fordham.

The UConn varsity eight boat was junior Charlotte Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), junior Natalie Carlone (Fort Washington, Pa.), senior Hillary Wiles-Lafayette (Litchfield, Conn.), sophomore Kathryn Hughes (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), senior Caitlin Swallow (South Glastonbury, Conn.), junior Julia Roth (Weston, Conn.), junior Kendra Kohanski (East Lyme, Conn.), senior Brittany DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.) and senior Adrienne Barrett (West Granby, Conn.).

The UConn second varsity eight was sophomore Elise McCormick (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Melissa Soucie (Avon, Conn.), junior Erin Mounce (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), junior Ashley West (Dudley, Mass.), freshman Audrey Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), sophomore Abbie Viner (Stratford, Conn.), freshman Emily Powers (Lyme, Conn.), sophomore Amanda Litty (Bethesda, Md.) and junior Chelsea Zabel (Guilford, Conn.).

UConn returns to action on Saturday when it plays host to Marist, Trinity, Coast Guard and Colgate at Coventry Lake.
