Second Varsity Eight Fifth At Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, N.J. - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team sent one boat to the Grand Finals and another two to Petite Finals on Saturday and Sunday at the annual Knecht Cup.

The Husky second varsity eight finished in fifth place in the Grand Final in a time of 7:02.70 after finishing second in its heat race at 7:30.98 and third in its next race in 7:01.83. In the Grand Final, UConn was just five second behind first-place Wisconsin.

The second varsity eight boat was junior Brittanie Reinold (Sulton, Mass), freshman Natalie Carlone (Fort Washington, Pa.), senior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), sophomore Adrienne Barrett (West Granby, Conn.), freshman Madelyn Walters (Orleans, Mass.), junior Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.), sophomore Melissa Soucie (Avon, Conn.), sophomore Deana Cabrey (Fort Sill, Okla.) and freshman Erin Mounce (Baldwinsville, N.Y.).

UConn's novice eight was third in the Petite Final at 7:40.46 after it finished third in its heat race at 7:57.49 and sixth in its next race at 7:46.94. That boat was The UConn boat was freshman Victoria Dreuhl (Stamford, Conn.), freshman Ashley West (Dudley, Mass.), freshman Abigail Lowry (Groton, Conn.), freshman Danielle Donnelly (Lakeside, Conn.), freshman Chelsea Zabel (Guilford, Conn.), freshman Kelly Fuller (Sunnyvale, Calif.), freshman Beth Ryan (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), sophomore Danielle Donahue (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and sophomore Alexandra Fidellaga (Parsippany, N.J.).



The UConn novice four finished in third place in the Petite Final in a time of 8:41.53 after finishing second in its first heat at 9:06.18 and fourth in their next race at 8:44.59. That boat was Dreuhl, Donnelly, Zabel, West and Ryan.

The varsity eight posted a 7:21.76 in its one race of the event - missing the semifinals by jut 0.1 seconds. That boat was made up of The UConn boat was freshman Charlotte Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), junior Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.), junior Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.), sophomore Hillary Wiles-Lafayette (Litchfield, Conn.), senior Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), senior Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), junior Kaitlyn Clarke (Tolland, Conn.), junior Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.) and junior Brittany DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.).

The UConn varsity four finished in third place in its Petite Final. That boat was sophomore Liz Sarant (Massapequa, N.Y.), senior Audrey Squire (Kinnelon, N.J.), senior Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.), junior Katie Visentin (Cheshire, Conn.) and senior Amanda Cote (Wakefield, R.I.).

UConn's second varsity four finished in third place in its race in 8:49.19. That boat was The UConn "B" boat was sophomore Laura Poff (South Yarmouth, Mass.), junior Sara Trevisani (Duxbury, Mass.), sophomore Mara Gauger (Winsted, Conn.), junior Ashley Kalinauskas (Vernon, Conn.) and sophomore Jessica Motta (Norwood, Mass.).

The Huskies return to action next Sunday when they take on Boston College and Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
