Women's Rowing Continues 2015 Season at Knecht Cup

The Huskies sent seven different boats to the Knecht Cup on April 11-12.

WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- After opening its season at the Murphy Cup in late March, the University of Connecticut women's rowing team competed in the two-day Knecht Cup on Mercer Lake in West Windsor Township, NJ. The event featured more than 70 schools from around the country.

The Huskies' V8+ earned a trip to the semis with a second-place finish in its heat (6:50.83), topping conference foe San Diego State (7:01.33). In the semis, the boat finished in 6:55.65, taking fifth in its semifinal race. The V8+ concluded its afternoon with a third-place finish in the Third Final, finishing the race in 7:03.26.

The UConn V4+ got the action started on Saturday morning, taking fifth in his heat with a 7:57.46 time and advancing to the semifinals. In the semis, the boat placed fifth in its race at 8:02.69. The boat concluded its afternoon with a third-place finish in the Third Final, finishing in 8:02.62 and edging out conference opponent Villanova (8:16.62).

The Huskies' 2V4+ `A' notched sixth in its heat and earned a trip to the petite finals, finishing with a 8:26.82 time, while the 2V4+ `B' checked in in fourth with a 8:50.59 time in the second heat. In the 2V4+ petite finals, the 'A' placed fifth at 8:10.75.

The 2V8+ earned a fourth-place finish in its heat, finishing the race in 7:05.50 and qualifying for the semis. In its semifinal, the boat raced to a fifth-place (7:17.22) before collecting sixth in the Third Final with a 7:30.65 time.

The 3V8+ claimed third in its heat, with a 7:24.20 time, finishing ahead of American Athletic Conference newcomer Tulsa (7:37.54). In the final, the boat raced to a sixth-place finish, recording a 7:23.09 time.

"This was a great regatta for us," said head coach Jennifer Wendry. "There was strong competition in every event and our boats competed well. We're looking forward to a busy upcoming week with midweek races against UMass and weekend races against Holy Cross and Boston College."

The Husky 2V8+ was Alexandra Coults (cox), Diana Gryszkiewicz (stroke), Caitie Parsons (seven), Alyssa Hopson (six), Heather Norris (five), Katherine Lavrentios (four), Shannon Cox (three), Teresa Starzeck (two), Abbie Viner (bow).

The Husky 3V8+ was Norelis Collado (cox), Emily Powers (stroke), Claire Kenison (seven), Amanda Litty (six), Sarah Norman (five), Kiersten Kronschnabel (four), Sierra Mazur (three), Kate Boudreau (two), Mai Walters (bow).

The V4+ consisted of Elizabeth Tomasco (cox), Arielle Sherman (stroke), Mae Hanson (three), Meg Duva (two), Aleksandra Torkelson (bow).

The 2V4+ `A' was Kathleen Snajder (cox), Courtney Dawless (stroke), Mikayla Hudson (three), Chisom Mokwuah (two), Alexandra Hill (bow).

The 2V4+ `B' was Collado (cox), Anna Fetteroll (stroke), Katie Wheatley (three), Sara Nelson (two), Jane Eklund (bow).

The Husky JV8+ was Alexandra Coults (cox), Diana Gryszkiewicz (stroke), Caitie Parsons (seven), Alyssa Hopson (six), Heather Norris (five), Katherine Lavrentios (four), Shannon Cox (three), Teresa Starzecki (two),Abbie Viner (bow).
