MERCER COUNTY, N.J. - The University of Connecticut rowing team competed in four events on Saturday and Sunday at the Knecht Cup. Among the 20 teams in the event were American Athletic Conference members UCF, SMU and Temple.
All four Husky boats advanced out of their respective heats into the semifinal on Saturday and three continued into Sunday's finals.
The UConn varsity eight was third in its heat with a time of 6:54.84 to finish third. In the semifinals, the boat was race in 6:56.66 and then finished third in the third final in a time of 7:19.34. Fordham won the third final, followed by Temple and UConn, then West Virginia, Colgate and George Mason.
The UConn varsity eight was: Elise McCormick (cox), Audrey Kelley (stroke), Natalie Carlone (seven), Ally Hopson (six), Heather Norris (five), Laura Webster (four), Julia Roth (three), Abbie Viner (two), Erin Mounce (bow).
The UConn second varsity eight was fourth in its heat in a time of 7:04.54 to finish fourth. In the semifinals, the Huskies raced in a time of 7:00.72 and then was sixth in the third finals in a time of 7:16.01. UConn was third in the event at the time until it caught a boat-stopping crab.
The UConn second varsity eight was: Charlotte Kelley (cox), Christine Latona (stroke), Diana Gryszkiewicz (seven), Haley Ullinger (six), Mikayla Hudson (five), Teresa Starzecki (four), Dani Wrubel (three), Chelsea Zabel (two), Meg Duva (bow).
The varsity four was fourth in its heat in a time of 8:04.85 and then raced at 8:01.17 in its semifinal. UConn was sixth in the third final in a time of 8:26.23.
The Husky novice eight was fourth in its heat in a time of 7:35.27 and timed out at 7:32.01 in its semfinal.
The UConn novice eight was: Olivia Schipani (cox), Olivia Durham (stroke), Julia Calise (seven), Caitie Parsons (six) Kiersten Kronschnabel (five), Chi Mokwuah (four), Mackenzie Freeland (three), Brenna Conrad (two), Sarah Norman (bow).
UConn returns to action on Friday at 7:00 a.m. when it plays host to Massachusetts at Coventry Lake.
