Women's Rowing Finishes Sixth At BIG EAST

CAMDEN, N.J. - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team finished in sixth place on Saturday at the BIG EAST Conference championship. Notre Dame won the team title with 112 points followed by Syracuse (97), Louisville (92 ) followed by Georgetown (85), Rutgers (56), Connecticut (52), Villanova (46) and West Virginia (38).

The UConn varsity eight finished third in their heat, qualifying them for the grand final. In the grand final, the Huskies finished sixth in 7:08.959 while Louisville won in 6:30.845.

The UConn boat was junior Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.), sophomore Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), sophomore Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), senior Kathy Les (South Windsor, Conn.), junior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), sophomore Audrey Squire (Kinnelon, N.J.), junior Sylvia Czupi (Woodbridge, Conn.), junior Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.) and junior Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.).

The second varsity eight had the best finish of the day for the Huskies with a fourth place finish in 7:04.543. UConn was third in its heat, which qualified them for the grand final. In the grand final, Notre Dame was first in 6:42.547, followed by Louisville and Syracuse. UConn was fourth, beating out Rutgers, Georgetown and Villanova.



The UConn boat was junior Mikey Sevick (Simsbury, Conn.), junior Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.), junior Kristen Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), junior Julie Konstantino (Orange, Conn.), junior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), freshman Jennifer Chames (Hookset, N.H.), junior Liz Harsley (Riverdale, N.J.), sophomore Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.) and sophomore Amanda Cote (Wakefield, R.I.).

The novice eight finished fourth in their heat and did not make the grand final. In the petite final, UConn finished first in front of Louisville in 7:33.503.

The UConn boast was freshman Sara Trevisani (Duxbury, Mass.), freshman Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.), freshman Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.), freshman Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.), freshman Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.), freshman Rosanna Edreira (Newburgh, N.Y.), senior Amy Kessler (Bridgewater, N.J.), junior Katherin Siracusa (Storrs, Conn.) and freshman Dana Haddad (Storrs, Conn.).

The UConn varsity four finished fourth in its heat and did not make the grand final. In the petite final, the Huskies finished first in front of Rutgers in 8:29.816.

The Husky boat was comprised of sophomore Hailey Rosa (Mansfield, Conn.), junior Elizabeth Bernard (Bridgeport, Conn.), sophomore Diana Ramirez (El Monte, Calif.) sophomore Elizabeth Flatley (Townsend, Mass.) and freshman Kylie Angell (Trumbull, Conn.)

UConn will compete in its final race of the year at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on May 8-9.
