Rowing Sends Five Boats To Semifinals At Dad Vail

Five Husky boats are on their way to the semifinals at the Dad Vails.

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Connecticut rowing team sent all five of the boats it entered to Saturday's semifinals as it concluded the first day of competition on Friday at the Dad Vail Regatta.

The UConn varsity eight boat finished third in its first race in a time of 7:02.170 to advance to the next round. California-Sacramento won the heat, which sent the Huskies to the reps. In its reps race, UConn finished first to earn a trip to Saturday's semifinals in a time of 7:18.385. The Huskies topped Ohio State and Army in that race.

The varsity eight boat was comprised of senior Michael-Ann Sevick (Simsbury, Conn.), senior Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.), senior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), junior Audrey Squire (Kinnelon, N.J.), senior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), junior Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), junior Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), senior Jenny Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), junior Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.).

The junior varsity eight finished second in its race on Friday to advance to the semifinals. The Huskies finished second to Buffalo in 7:25.780. That boat was made up of senior Leah Masopust (Morris, Conn.), senior Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.), senior Kristen Beasley (Centerville, Mass.), senior Liz Harlsey (Riverdale, N.Y.), senior Sylvia Czupi (Woodbridge, Conn.), sophomore Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.), freshman Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.), sophomore Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.) and sophomore Dana Haddad (Storrs, Conn.).


 

 

The novice eight won its heat in a time of 7:25.415 over Brock 8 and Duquense and will now go to the semifinals. That boat was freshman Liz Sarant (Massapequa, N.Y.), freshman Melissa Soucie (Avon, Conn.), sophomore Kaitlyn Clarke (Tolland, Conn.), freshman DeeDee Cabrey (Fort Sill, Okla.), freshman Adrienne Barrett (West Granby, Conn.), sophomore Katie Visentin (Cheshire, Conn.), freshman Hillary Wiles-Lafayette (Litchfield, Conn.), sophomore Carolyn Judge (Weston, Conn.) and freshman Brittany DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.).

The UConn varsity four was second in its heat to Robert Morris in 7:30.116 to go on to the semis. That boat is sophomore Brittany Reinold (Sutton, Mass.), sophomore Jess Chames (Hookset, N.H), sophomore Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.), sophomore Mary Fowler (Milford, Conn.) and junior Amanda Cote (Wakefield, Conn.).

The novice four was second to Fairfield in its heat in 8:03.577 and will go on to the semis That boat is freshman Mandy Collins (Harrisville, R.I.), freshman Kelly Macko (Bolton, Mass.), sophomore Meredith Malinn (Norwood, Mass.), freshman Mara Gauger (Winsted, Conn.) and freshman Jess Motta (Norwood, Mass.).
