Two Husky Boats Advance To Dad Vail Semifinals

The UConn varsity eight and novice eight will race on Saturday.

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Connecticut women's rowing varsity eight won its first preliminary race on Friday to advance to Saturday's semifinals at the Dad Vail Regatta. The UConn varsity eight, which featured junior coxswain Natalie Carlone (Fort Washington, Pa.), came in at a time of 6:49.725 as the Huskies topped Georgia Tech, Army, Marquette and Temple.

The UConn novice eight also advanced to Saturday's semifinals with a second place finish in its preliminary. UConn came in a time of 7:39.715 and was topped by Florida, but beat the College of Charleston, Bryant and Marquette. Freshman AnnaMarie Sullivan (Hampton, N.H.) was the coxswain of that boat.

The UConn junior varsity eight finished third in its heat in 7:11.491 finished in third in its heat and did not advance to the semifinals. UMass and Purdue finished ahead of the Huskies to advance.
