CHERRY HILL, N.J. – The UConn rowing team concluded the 2018 season by competing in the American Athletic Conference Championships on the Cooper River on Saturday morning – a race highlighted by a first-place finish from the Third Varsity 8+.

For the fourth-consecutive season, UCF won the AAC Championship with 209 overall points, while Tulsa (160) and Temple (148) round-out the top three. The Huskies finished in seventh place with 67 points.

Junior Micaela Nowacki (Sandy Hook, Conn.) stood out for UConn on Saturday, earning a place on the All-Conference First Team for her performance all season. On April 9, she was named one of four UConn student-athletes to earn the title of National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American.

“Congratulations to the Third Varsity 8+, it was a fun race to watch,” said head coach Jennifer Wendry. “Thanks to the seniors for four great years. They will be missed and have left big shoes to fill.”

The Third Varsity 8+ finished in a time of 7:46.00, beating UCF and Temple, and capturing the best finish of the day for UConn. The Third Varsity 4+ took fourth place in 9:01.97, just four seconds behind Tulsa for a bronze-medal finish.

The Huskies complete the spring with three first-place finishes, including a pair in the Third Varsity 8+. It was the second time that UConn competed in Cherry Hill, N.J., as it raced in the Cherry Hill Invitational on April 21 – getting four second-place boats.
