PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Connecticut varsity eight boat finished third in the petite final on Saturday at the Dad Vail Regatta as the Husky team concluded its season in the two-day event.
The varsity eight finished in third place in its semifinal heat in a time of 7:00.30 in a race won by St. Joseph's. That finish qualified the Huskies for the petite and UConn had a time of 6:51.04 in that race won by Drexel.
The UConn varsity eight was made up of freshman Charlotte Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), junior Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.), junior Kate Clarke (Tolland, Conn.), sophomore Hillary Wiles-Lafayette (Litchfield, Conn.), sophomore Adrienne Barrett (West Granby, Conn.), junior Andriel Doolittle (Clinton, Conn.), junior Mary Grace Haggett (Ledyard, Conn.), freshman Erin Mounce (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and junior Brittany DePoi (Brookfield, Conn.).
The Husky junior varsity eight finished in fifth in its semifinal in a time of 7:16.71 as that race was won by Bucknell. The UConn boat there was junior Brittanie Reinold (Sulton, Mass.), freshman Natalie Carlone (Fort Washington, Pa.), senior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Conn.), senior Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), senior Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), freshman Madelyn Walters (Orleans, Mass.), senior Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.), sophomore Melissa Soucie (Avon, Conn.) and junior Amanda Sibley (Old Lyme, Conn.).
The UConn novice eight was sixth in its semifinal race in a time of 7:23.13 as Western Ontario won the race. That boat was made up of freshman Victoria Dreuhl (Stamford, Conn.), freshman Danielle Donnelly (Lakeside, Conn.), freshman Beth Ryan (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), freshman Ashley West (Dudley, Mass.), freshman Chelsea Zabel (Guilford, Conn.), freshman Kelly Fuller (Sunnyvale, Calif.), freshman Abigail Lowry (Groton, Conn.), sophomore Danielle Donahue (Gales Ferry, Conn.) and sophomore Rachel Hipplewitz (Gales Ferry, Conn).
