Women's Rowing Posts Strong Showing at the Head of Riverfront Regatta

Oct. 6, 2014

HARTFORD, Conn. - The UConn Women’s rowing team opened its 2014-2015 campaign at the Head of the Riverfront regatta in Hartford, Conn. The Huskies had one of their strongest showings at the Head of the Riverfront by winning the college 8+, college novice 8+, and college 4+ events. UConn also placed third in the college 8+ event, earning a bronze medal. This was the first time since 2007 that UConnecticut has won the college 8+ event, reclaiming the LaPerla Plate perpetual trophy.
"This was a great way for us to start our season, having multiple wins," said Husky head coach Jennifer Wendy. "Head racing is very different from the racing we do in the spring so in a sense the results of the fall are inconclusive.  That being said, our boats competed hard and were rewarded with the win, which sets the tone for future races this fall and more importantly, sets the tone for winning this spring.  Every time we win it can become more of an expectation and habit.  We are on our way to a successful 2014-2015 season as shown by our efforts today."
Results from this regatta reflect the depth and momentum set forth for the season. UConn’s next race is at the prestigious Head of the Charles regatta in Boston, Mass. on October 18.
