Rowing Competes At Head Of The Charles

BOSTON - The University of Connecticut women’s rowing team had three boats compete as the Head of the Charles regatta last Saturday and Sunday.

The varsity eight competed in the championship eight race, which is the most competitive event at the Head of the Charles. UConn finished in 35th place overall and ahead of teams such as Rutgers, Holy Cross, Villanova and Temple -- all schools which they will race against this spring.

The top three finishers in the event were Cambridge, which defeated the United States national team by 1.2 seconds while the London Training Center was third.

On Saturday the varsity eight competed in the club eight event and finished 21st. Radcliffe, Brown and the Riverside Boat Club took the top three spots.

UConn's third varsity four raced in the club four event and finished 27th in a very competitive field. Many teams placed their top four athletes in this event. Fordham won while Clemson was second and Boston University finished third.

Varsity eight in club eight race: Charlotte Kelley, Arielle Sherman, Emily Powers, Diana Gryskiewicz, Meg Duva, Abbie Viner, Ashley West, Chelsea Zabel.



Third varsity four in club four race: Katelyn Greatsinger, Kaitlin Anderson, Christine Latona, Doe Bajguz, Abi Lowry.
