STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's rowing team held its annual banquet Saturday night at the Rome Commons Ballroom to celebrate the careers of their 10 graduating seniors. In addition, team awards were given out for the 2015-2016 season as 150 people were in attendance to recognize the accomplishments of the group both on and off the water.
The Coaches award was given to seniors Chisom Mokuwah (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Mikayla Hudson (Windsor, Conn.) for their ability to lead and inspire their teammates.
The Drive award is presented annually to an individual who excelled in winter training and this year’s recipient was senior Emily Powers (Lyme, Conn).
The Husky Award was presented to junior Arielle Sherman-Golembeski, voted on by her teammates, for the qualities of leadership, friendship and dedication.
"The 10 seniors we honored this evening will be truly missed next year,” said head coach Jennifer Wendy. “As a group they showed strong leadership and set an excellent example for future years in relation to the culture we demand and expect from our team. Each individual made their mark on the program in different ways. Additionally, I congratulate the individual award winners."
