Stern Earns All-New England Second Team Honors

Four UConn rowers were named to the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete team.

STORRS, Conn. - University of Connecticut junior Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.) has been named to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-New England Region Second Team.

Stern was a mainstay in the UConn varsity eight throughout the 2009-10 season and was named All-BIG EAST First Team following the 2010 BIG EAST Championship Regatta. She received the UConn Rowing "Drive Award" at the team's year-end banquet. The Drive Award winner is determined by a team vote and recognizes individual excellence during the winter training season. The team also recently voted Stern a senior co-captain for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Senior Lizzie Littlewood (Mystic, Con.), senior Jennifer Reynolds (South Hero, Vt.), junior Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.) were named 2010 CRCA National Scholar-Athletes. To be eligible for this recognition student-athletes must have a 3.5 or higher cumulative GPA and must have rowed in their institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boats for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or raced in a regional championship event.

Littlewood is a physiology and neurobiology major; Reynolds is a chemical engineering major; Weber is a double major in education and history while Willhoft is a nursing major.
