Kathy Les Hired as Rowing Assistant Coach

July 3, 2017

STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn rowing program and head coach Jennifer Wendry announced on Monday the hiring of Kathy Les, a 2009 UConn graduate and former rowing student-athlete, as assistant coach.

Les returns to the Huskies after spending the past year serving as an assistant coach for UCF rowing, the reigning champion of the American Athletic Conference. From 2009-11, she was the volunteer assistant coach on Wendry's staff at UConn.

From 2005-09, Les was a UConn rower -- eventually becoming team captain and a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology in 2009, before receiving her Master of Arts in Exercise Science in 2011.

"Kathy Les was an influential member of our team as an undergraduate student-athlete and graduate volunteer coach. I am so excited that she has chosen to come back to her alma mater to make a greater impact on our program," said Wendry.

In the five years prior to UCF, Les served multiple roles at Colgate University -- working as assistant coach of the rowing program, event management and facilities assistant, manager of the Glendening Boathouse and volunteer assistant coach of the rugby club.

"She comes with a wealth of knowledge from her experiences at Colgate and most recently UCF. Kathy will make an immediate positive impact on the program and I am confident the team will share in my excitement when they meet her this fall," said Wendry.

"It's an honor and privilege to be returning to my alma mater. I would like to thank Coach Jen Wendry for her continued support and guidance through my coaching career," said Les. "I look forward to many successful seasons as part of the Husky family!"

Les will join Allyson Zoppa and Noah Solomon, rounding-out Wendry's coaching staff for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
