Rowing Finishes 12th Of 45 Crews At Head Of The Charles

BOSTON, Mass. (October 18, 2008)  -- The University of Connecticut women's rowing team and its varsity eight boat finished 12th of 45 crews in the Club Eiht event on Saturday at the annual Head of the Charles Regatta.

Yale won the event in 16:47.8 and the Huskies UConn raced in a time of 18:09.6.  Rowing for UConn were sophomore Gretchen Stern (Rexford, N.Y.), sophomore Kim Weber (Ridgefield, Conn.), senior Kathy Les (South Windsor, Conn.), junior Sarah Willhoft (Manchester, Conn.), junior Rebecca Likar (East Lyme, Conn.), junior Katie Rauscher (Manchester, Conn.), sophomore Morfia Efthimiou (Stonington, Conn.), freshman Diana Filipek (Sewell, N.J.) and sophomore Katelyn Donovan (Sherman, Conn.).

"We started with bow number 31 and right from the start we passed some crews," said UConn head coach Jennifer Sanford-Wendry. "Unfortunately we were involved in a few collisions as we were passing boats. One crew in particular did not yield to us as they should have, and it really cost us with our steering. Outside of the collisions, I thought the crew rowed well and had fun, and that's what you want at the Charles."

UConn will conclude its fall season on November 1 at the Syracuse Invitational.
