The UConn women’s soccer team, ranked 21st in the nation, lost its home opener on Friday to Yale by a 1-0 score at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. UConn falls to 0-1-1 on the season while it was Yale’s opener.
The only score of the game came at the 18:27 mark of the first half as Yale sophomore midfielder Noelle Higginson scored off a scramble in front of the net.
Yale outshot the Huskies by a 6-4 count and the Huskies had a 5-4 corner kick advantage.
The Huskies were held in check offensively by the Elis in the first half, but UConn became more aggressive in the second half.
The Huskies had free kick in the 74th minutes that resulted in a shot by junior Heidi Druehl (Stamford, Conn.) and also had a corner kick in the final minute of play but were unable to score on both chances.
Redshirt freshman Mollie Kerrigan (Fairfield, Conn.) made two saves in goal for UConn while Alyssa Fagel recorded a shutout for Yale.
UConn returns to action on Sunday when the travel to No. 15 Rutgers for a 1 p.m. game. The Scarlet Knights are 2-0 on the year.
