SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The UConn women's soccer team closed out the Notre Dame Adidas Invitational with a 1-1 tie against No. 16 Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. Danielle Schulmann scored the equalizing goal for Connecticut. The Huskies previously fell to No. 19 North Carolina, 2-0, on Friday.
Connecticut sits at 2-2-1 on the season after going 0-1-1 this past weekend. The Huskies will host Marist in Storrs on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
Santa Clara took a 1-0 lead early in the contest with Lauren Matheson scoring just 8:57 into the match.
The Huskies responded with Schulmann's third goal of the season at 22:59 to equalize at 1-1. She was assisted by Jennifer Skogerboe, her first assist of the season .
Connecticut outshot Santa Clara, 9-3, in the opening 45 minutes forcing four saves from Santa Clara keeper Andi Tostanoski.
The second half saw back and forth action with neither team breaking the deadlock. Santa Clara took the advantage in shots with 14 in the second half compared to five from UConn.
Neither team was able to find the game winner in overtime with Santa Clara hitting the post at 92:52. Linda Ruute had a shot Connecticut saved a minute later for the final chance for either team.
