BOSTON, Mass.- The UConn women’s soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss at Boston University on Friday evening where the Terriers snapped Connecticut’s four-game win streak. The Huskies are now 4-3-0 on the season, while the Terriers improve to 4-2-1 with the win and remain unbeaten at Nickerson Field in the 2013 campaign.
The Terriers quickly scored against a Husky defense that has limited opponents to 10.7 shots and .67 goals per game in the 2013 season. Boston University’s Megan McGoldrick netted the game-winner just 3:20 minutes into the contest as she capitalized from outside the box on a pass from Emma Clark.
Despite the Huskies outshooting Boston University 10-8 on the night, the Terriers would not allow Connecticut to score and handed UConn its second shutout loss of the year. Junior Riley Houle led the Huskies with three shots, while Stephanie Ribeiro, Sam McGuire and Rachel Hill each took aim twice.
The Huskies continued to pressure the BU backline as Connecticut had several opportunities in the final 12 minutes to even the game, including Julie Hubbard’s shot on goal after shaking a Terrier defender only to see Andrea Green (2-2-1) make the save. Green finished with five saves and UConn’s Emily Armstrong (4-3) ended the evening with two saves.
UConn returns to Storrs on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest against Dartmouth at Morrone Stadium. The game will be streamed live on HuskyVision and broadcasted live on WHUS for fans who are unable to attend.
