STORRS, Conn. -- Junior Kaitlin Fregulia scored on a header with 2:51 to go in the second overtime to lead Long Beach to a 3-2 win over the UConn women's soccer team on Thursday night at Morrone Stadium. Sophomore Chloe Fremont picked up an assist on the game-winning play.
The Huskies fell behind twice in regulation and came back both times to force the overtime. The Huskies' record now stands at 2-4-2 while Long Beach is 5-3-1.
Long Beach opened the game's scoring at the 13:08 mark of the first half on a goal by Kayla Cannon with the assist going to Dana Fujikuni.
The Huskies tied the game at 27:24 when freshman Yamilee Eveillard (Valley Stream, N.Y.) picked up her first career goal with freshman Kess Elmore (Liverpool, England) picking up the assist. Elmore now has five goals and one assist in the past five games.
The 49ers took a 2-1 halftime lead with 4:43 left in the half on a score by Rola Badawiya with the assist going to Chloe Froment.
The Huskies tied it at 2-2 with 39:06 to go in the second half on an unassisted scored by junior Vivien Beil (Jena, Germany). Beil stole the ball from a LBSU defender and put the shot past goalkeeper Mia Hummel.
Long Beach outshot UConn 14-12 and held a 4-3 corner kick advantage. Hummel had two saves in goal for the 49es while redshirt freshman Mollie Kerrigan (Fairfield, Conn.) also had two for UConn.
The Huskies return to action on Sunday when it plays host to Colorado College at 12 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
