VILLANOVA, Pa. – Freshman forward Andrea Plucenik (Brooklyn, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal at 105:52 on a pass from Linda Ruutu (Espoo, Finland) to lift the Huskies to a 2-1 victory in double-overtime on Sunday afternoon at Villanova’s West Campus Complex. The UConn women’s soccer team improved to 6-4-1 and 2-2 in the BIG EAST, while the Wildcats fell to 4-6-2 and 2-2 in conference action.
Sophomore midfielder Riley Houle (Columbia, Conn.) gave the Huskies a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute of the game when she took a cross from senior Danielle Schulmann (Saddle River, N.J.) and scored from inside the box.
The Huskies looked like they were going to walk out of Pennsylvania with a 1-0 shutout when Hayley Wilson scored with eight seconds remaining in regulation off of a reflected corner kick to force the game to overtime.
Connecticut’s junior keeper Leigh-Ann Jaggon (Windsor, Conn.) registered seven saves in her 106 minutes of action to improve to 2-2 on the season. The Huskies, who had four student-athletes tally a point on Sunday, took 14 shots and the Wildcats shot the ball 16 times.
The Huskies return to Storrs on Friday, September 28, when they welcome DePaul to Morrone Stadium at 5:30 p.m. Connecticut will then host Notre Dame on Sunday at noon.
