STORRS, Conn. - A pair of goals from senior Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) and redshirt senior Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) gave the No. 21 UConn women's soccer team its first conference win of the season Thursday when the Huskies defeated Tulsa, 4-2, at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
Ribeiro notched a career-high six points in a single game while Hill finished with four points on the night, including the game-winning goal. The Huskies improve to 9-2 overall and extend their win-streak to four games. Tulsa starts off 0-1 in its AAC schedule and drops to 4-6-1 overall.
UConn got off to an early lead in the 11th minute when Hill grabbed her seventh goal of the season right in front off a pass from Ribeiro, but Tulsa eclipsed that lead less than a minute later to tie the game up 1-1.
In the 22nd minute, senior Maddie Damm (North Kingstown, R.I.) played a nice pass off the Ribeiro, who scored off the post to give UConn a 2-1 lead that held up until halftime.
All three second half goals came in between the 73rd and the 78th minutes. Hill tallied her second goal of the game in the 73rd minute, giving UConn its first two-goal lead of the night. In the same fashion as the first half, the Golden Hurricane answered immediately 30 seconds later close the gap again, 3-2.
Off a breakaway in the 78th minute, Ribeiro scored her second goal of the evening, setting a new personal best six points in a single match. She tied her previous best five points in last week's game against Fordham.
UConn outshot Tulsa 23-6 overall and 15-4 in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) finished with two saves against the Golden Hurricane and earned her ninth win of the season.
The Huskies are back in action at Morrone Stadium Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. when they welcome the Memphis Tigers.
