STORRS, Conn. - The No. 21 UConn women's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout Thursday after the Huskies pushed past UCF 3-0 at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Senior goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) posted an impressive nine saves to earn her third consecutive and seventh overall shutout of the season.

Senior Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) played a part in all three goals led the team with four points (1g, 2a), which now puts her at the No. 1 spot in the nation for total points with 36 this season. She is also tied for second in the country for total goals with 13.
UConn is now 12-2-1 with a 4-0-1 conference record as it extends its unbeaten streak to eight games. UCF falls to an even 6-6-1 with a 1-2-1 record in American Athletic Conference games.
The Huskies and the Knights were back and forward the entire first half with shots fairly even at 8-6 in favor of the Huskies. UCF kicked things off with a nifty roundhouse kick from leading scorer Carol Rodrigues, but Armstrong had everything covered on UConn's back line.
With the clock ticking down, it appeared the match would remain scoreless heading into halftime, but senior Toriana Patterson (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored her first career goal with 34 seconds on the clock to give the Huskies a late 1-0 lead going into the break.
UConn extended its lead to 2-0 just over 10 minutes into the second half when senior Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) scored on a breakaway in the 57th minute. She is now tied for sixth in the nation for overall goals with 11 so far this year.
Ribeiro solidified the score 3-0 in the 66th minute with her 13th goal of the year. Armstrong and the Husky defense, who haven't allowed a goal in over 330 minutes of play, held off UCF for the remaining 24 minutes to earn their seventh shutout of the season.
The Huskies return to Morrone Stadium Sunday, Oct. 16 to close out their home schedule against USF for Senior Day. The five UConn seniors and two senior managers will be honored prior to the start of Sunday's noon match-up.
