Release from Portland Thorns FC

A pair of former UConn women's soccer standouts have been called into 2015 Preseason Camp by Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). Devin Prendergast ('13) and Danielle Schulmann ('12) are among 42 hopefuls aiming to earn a spot on Portland for the upcoming season.

Prendergast played for the Huskies from 2010-13, seeing time in 73 fixtures with 42 starts. She scored six goals and added an assist for 13 career points, including a career-best 4-1-9 scoring line in 2011. Prendergast was named NEWISA All-New England twice in her career and was All-Conference Second Team member in 2013.

Schulmann played two years in National Flag Blue and White and led the Huskies in scoring in both 2011 and 2012. After scoring seven goals and finishing with 15 points as a junior in '11, she exploded for a 10-7-27 scoring ledger in her senior season in 2012. Schulmann was All-Conference in both seasons and added an NSCAA All-Region nod in 2012. She was also named a Jewish Sports Review All-American following her senior season.

Portland began its preseason camp on Monday (March 10) and opens exhibition play on March 21 against the University of Portland. The regular season begins on April 11 against the Boston Breakers.
