STORRS, Conn.- The University of Connecticut women’s soccer program announced another addition to the 2012 squad as freshman goalkeeper Jess Montrose will join the Huskies. The Lancashire, England native will vie for the starting position defending the net for UConn with the graduation of three-year starter Jessica Dulski.
The 5-7 keeper attended the prestigious Ladies Centre of Excellence run by Everton Football Club which is one of the top clubs in the UK. She has been a part of the team since the age of 16 and was captured the League Title in both 2011 and 2012. With Jess in goal, Everton has also won the County Cup in 2011 and 2012 and were League Cup Champions in 2011 and finalists in 2012.
"I was very impressed with Jess and her ability, not just as a shot stopper but her ability to read and manage the game around her. Her decision making is quick and decisive and her distribution is excellent,” stated assistant coach Zac Shaw. “Growing up in the soccer mad city of Liverpool, her constant exposure to the game at the highest level has certainly added to her understanding of the game and should help ease her transition to college soccer. I'm really looking forward to the chance to work with her and watch her continue to develop over the next several years."
In addition to Montrose, the Huskies will have nine other incoming freshmen for the 2012 campaign. UConn will welcome three forwards, four midfielders, one defender and one other goalie in 2012. Click here for the previous release on other incoming freshmen.
