STORRS, Conn. -- The UConn women's soccer team has announced its 19-game regular season schedule for the upcoming 2016 season. The Huskies will play 11 home games at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium and face four opponents that appeared in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. UConn will welcome two opponents, Pacific and San Diego State, for the first time in program history.
UConn finished 19-4 overall in the 2015 season, captured the American Athletic Conference regular season title and advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2007.
After an exhibition match-up with Boston College on Aug. 12, UConn will open up its regular season with back-to-back home games on Friday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. against Northeastern and Sunday, Aug. 21 at 1 p.m. versus Boston University.
The Huskies play five out of their first six games at home, with their first away game at Harvard on Aug. 26 at 7 p.m., followed by three consecutive home games against Rutgers (Aug. 28), Pacific (Sept. 2) and CCSU (Sept. 4).
UConn suffered two losses to the Scarlet Knights in 2015, once in the regular season and again in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies squared off against CCSU last season, claiming a 2-1 victory in close-by New Britain.
Next up, UConn hits the road for a 7 p.m. start with Florida State on Thursday, Sept. 8, before returning to the home pitch for a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee with Stony Brook on Sept. 11. UConn has only faced Stony Brook one other time in program history where the Huskies pulled out a 4-0 win in 2014.
The Huskies will head back on the road, this time to Hamilton, N.Y., to face Colgate for the second consecutive season. UConn opened its regular season last year with a 4-1 victory over the Raiders at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies are undefeated against the Raiders, 9-0, in the all-time series, dating back to 1993.
UConn closes out its non-conference slate with a first-ever meeting with San Diego State on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
Conference play will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 29 when UConn hosts Tulsa at Morrone Stadium, followed by Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 2. The Huskies went 8-1 in 2015 to claim the American regular season title, with their only conference loss coming against USF.
The Huskies will travel to Texas in early October for SMU (Oct. 6) and Houston (Oct. 9) before returning home to host the Florida opponents, UCF (Oct. 13) and USF (Oct. 16.).
UConn will close out its regular season slate with a three-game road stretch, beginning at Temple on Oct. 22, followed by Cincinnati on Oct. 27 and East Carolina on Oct. 30.
The American Championship is set to begin on Nov. 2, with the semifinals scheduled for Nov. 4 and the Championship match on Nov. 6. The No. 1 seed will host all three rounds.
