Huskies Selected to Finish Second in BIG EAST Preseason Poll

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  -The University of Connecticut women's soccer squad was chosen to finish second in the American Division by the 15 BIG EAST coaches as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. The Huskies ended the 2011 season with a 7-8-2 overall record and a 4-5-2 mark in league action to finish 6th in the American Division and just shy of a BIG EAST Tournament berth.

UConn will return 15 letterwinners and eight starters including its pair of Huskies named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason squad. Senior forward Danielle Schulmann (Saddle River, N.J.) and sophomore mid Riley Houle (Columbia, Conn.) were voted to the 2012 All-BIG EAST Preseason Team. Schulmann led the Husky offense in 2011 with 15 points on seven goals and an assist, while Houle tallied seven points on three goals and an assist.

Marquette topped the American Division with 97 points and 13 first place votes to finish ahead of second seeded UConn who finished with 84 points and two first place nods. USF (57) and Providence (52) were selected to finish third and fourth, respectively.  Notre Dame was picked to finish first in the National Division.

The Huskies start the 2012 season this weekend with two exhibition games at Morrone Stadium when they welcome Northeastern at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 10 and LIU at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 12.
