STORRS, Conn. - Two late second half goals from Hayley Dowd led Boston College to a 2-0 victory over UConn in the team's first preseason match on Monday night at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
The match remained scoreless through the first half.Rachel Hill opened with the first scoring chances, putting up two shots in the first 15 minutes. After the first half concluded, UConn led in shots 5-2.
Boston College came out full force in the second half with multiple, back-to-back scoring chances for Hayley Dowd. Mckenzie Meehan also had a chance to capitalize in the 58th minute when she hit a shot off the post.
UConn pulled goalkeeper Emily Armstrong in the 60th minute and put in Allison Saucier with 30 minutes remaining in the match.Armstrong left the game recording two saves.
Rachel Hill found the back of the net mid-second half to put the Huskies on top 1-0 with 23 minutes remaining in the game.The opportunity came from a fast break for Samantha McGuire on the right hand side, who then crossed it to Hill who snuck it passed BC keeper Alexis Bryant.
Hayley Dowd tied the game up with just over seven minutes remaining in the game off a pass from Carly Leipzig. Less than four minutes later, Dowd netted the game-winner, which gave the Eagles a 2-1 lead with just over three minutes on the clock. Amber Stearns lofted the ball over UConn's defense to a running Dowd who pushed it past Saucier.
UConn plays its second exhibition match this Friday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium. The Huskies open regular season play at home Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. against Colgate.
