PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After a 2-0 start to the 2016 season, senior goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) earned American Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the week of Aug. 22 as announced by the conference Monday. Redshirt-senior forward Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) was named to the weekly honor roll.
The veteran Husky keeper started off her season in net with back-to-back shutouts, coming against Northeastern and Boston University. Armstrong faced all 90 minutes in both matches, recording four saves against NU and three against BU for a goals against average of zero and a 1.000 save percentage.
Ribeiro was recognized on the weekly honor roll for her two game-winning goals in both of UConn’s 1-0 victories. Her game-winner against the Terriers came in the 89th minute, erasing the possibility of overtime. She currently leads the team with four points.
The Huskies hit the road for their first away match Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. when they take on Harvard in Boston.
