STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women’s soccer team (2-0-0) will take on Navy (1-1-0) Sunday, Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis, Md. in the teams second road game of the season.
The Huskies are currently 2-0 in the 2015 season, pulling out wins against Colgate and Georgetown. UConn came back from being down 1-0 in the second half against Georgetown with goals from juniors Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) and Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.), giving the Huskies a 2-1 victory over the Hoyas on Thursday.
Hill received American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after recording five points (2g, 1a) against Colgate in the season opener on Aug. 21. Junior Maddie Damm (New Kingsford, R.I.) and sophomore Danielle Gottwik (New Port Richey, Fla.) notched the other two goals in the Huskies’ 4-1 inaugural win against Colgate.
Navy currently holds a record of 2-1-0 in its 2015 schedule. In its last match, the team pulled out a 2-1 win against VMI in 84th minute when sophomore Meghan Hegarty notched the game-winning-goal. Senior Lexi Ricketts notched the first goal for the Midshipmen with 34 seconds left in the first half.
The Mids pulled out a 3-2 win in their season opener, after being down 2-0 against UMBC, with goals from Rachel Feidman, Mary August and Margaret Woodward. August and Woodward’s goals both fell in the last ten minutes of the match. The teams only loss this season came against Maryland in a 2-0 loss on the road.
UConn leads the All-Time series against Navy 2-0-0. The last time the two met was in 2014, where the Huskies pulled out a 2-1 victory over the Mids. The first and only other time the two matched up was in 2006, where UConn shutout Navy 2-0.
The Huskies will return to Joseph J. Morrone Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. where they will take on Syracuse.
