STORRS, Conn. – The undefeated UConn women’s soccer team (3-0-0) will face off against Syracuse (2-2-0) Thursday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium as the Huskies look to extend their winning-streak to four games.
The Huskies are currently 3-0 in their schedule this season, coming off a 4-2 win against Navy on Sunday. UConn registered 30 shots, 13 of them on net against the Midshipmen, who got off six shots on goal of their ten total shots. The match was tied at 1-1 going into halftime thanks to a goal from junior Rachel Hill (Rollinsford, N.H.) in the 12th minute, but it was second-half goals from senior Andrea Plucenik (Brooklyn, Conn.), junior Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) and freshman Kim Urbanek (Lonnerstadt, Germany) that gave the Huskies the 4-2 lead to end the match. UConn registered its other two wins against Colgate and Georgetown.
Syracuse is currently 2-2 so far this season. In its last match the Orange walked away with a 2-1 victory against Albany with second-half goals from sophomore Eva Gordon and junior Stephanie Skilton. The team was coming off a pair of 1-0 losses against St. John’s and Providence. Syracuse opened its regular season with a 6-0 shutout against UMass, where graduate student racked up five points (2g, 1a) for the Orange.
UConn leads the all-time series against Syracuse 18-1-1. The last time the two met was in 2014, where the match ended in a 1-1 tie. Sophomore Danielle Gottwik, at that time a freshman, her first career goal with the Huskies and UConn’s only goal of the match in the 11th minute. Syracuse’s Alexis Koval tied the match up in the 37th minute, and neither team could capitalize in the second half for the win.
The Huskies continue their three-game home stretch Sunday, Sept 6 against Harvard at 1 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. both at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.
