STORRS, Conn. – Senior goalkeeper Emily Armstrong (Collegeville, Pa.) and redshirt senior forward Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) were recognized by the American Athletic Conference Monday for their performances against Pacific and Central Connecticut State. Armstrong took home Goalkeeper of the Week honors while Ribeiro was named the Weekly Honor Roll.
Armstrong was named Goalkeeper of the Week after helping the Huskies to back-to-back victories this past weekend, including a five-save shutout against Pacific Friday. Her shutout against the Tigers marked her third solo shutout of the season.
The 2015 AAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Armstrong also registered two saves in UConn’s 2-1 victory over CCSU. She has started in all six games and faced all 540 minutes in net, tallying 22 saves this season for a .846 save percentage and a 0.67 goals against average.
Ribeiro was named to the conference Weekly Honor Roll after racking up five points (2g, 1a) in UConn’s last two games, including both game-winning goals.The 2015 AAC Midfielder of the Year, Ribeiro was responsible for UConn’s one and only goal in the Huskies’ 1-0 win against Pacific.
Against CCSU Sunday, Ribeiro assisted in UConn’s first goal in the sixth minute and then scored in the 54th minute to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead. That goal eventually became the game-winner after Central got on the board in the 84th minute. She currently leads the Huskies with four goals, all four have been game-winners.
Armstrong, Ribeiro and the rest of the Husky squad will take on No. 1 Florida State Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Seminole Soccer Complex in Tallahassee, Fla.
