STORRS, Conn. –
The No. 17 UConn women’s soccer team will take on No. 1 Florida State Thursday on the road at the Seminole Soccer Complex before returning home Sunday to host Stony Brook at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies are now 5-1 overall, coming off an undefeated 2-0 weekend with wins over Pacific and Central Connecticut State. Redshirt senior Stephanie Ribeiro (Pawtucket, R.I.) took credit for both game-winning goals, bringing her total to four this season.

Head coach Len Tsantiris will try for 550th career win. The 36-year head coach is just one win away with an overall coaching record of 549-190-55 after UConn’s most recent victory over CCSU.­

After starting off the season undefeated 3-0, No. 1 Florida State was handed its first loss of the season Monday by South Alabama. UConn is the second ranked team to face FSU so far this season, after the Seminoles opened their season against No. 8 Texas A&M.

Prior to its 1-0 loss to South Alabama, Florida State delivered 180 minutes of scoreless play, posting three shutouts to start the 2016 season with redshirt junior goalkeeper Cassie Miller seeing the majority of minutes guarding the goal line. FSU is led by freshman Deyna Castellanos with six points (3g).

Stony Brook went 1-1 this past weekend, earning its first win of the season Friday against Fairfield. Connecticut will be the first ranked team the Seawolves face this season. Stony Brook began its 2016 slate with back-to-back matches that ended in double overtime, the first resulting in a loss to Bryant and the next a tie with Sacred Heart.

Before traveling to Storrs on Sunday, the Seawolves will host Columbia on Friday, Sept. 9. Stony Brook is led by senior forward Raven Edwards, who is responsible for two of Stony Brook’s three goals this season.

UP NEXT…

UConn hits the road again to challenge Colgate on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. in Hamilton, N.Y. The Huskies will have the weekend off starting Sept. 16 before returning to action the following Thursday, Sept. 22.
