STORRS, Conn.- Redshirt freshman Gabriella Cuevas was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is Cuevas’ first conference accolade of her career and UConn’s third nod in two weeks. Following Connecticut’s fourth straight shutout victory, freshman keeper Emily Armstrong earned a spot on the Honor Roll for the second consecutive week.
The Wayne, N.J. native anchored the Husky backline in a 2-0 week where the Huskies downed Maine and Syracuse at home. Cuevas and the UConn defense was stellar in their third and fourth consecutive shutouts allowing opponents only four shots on goal and 10 total shots over the weekend.
UConn is back in action on Friday, September 13, when the Huskies play at Boston University at 7 p.m. The Huskies and Terriers have met eight times with UConn holding a 5-3 all-time mark over BU.
