STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women’s soccer team closes out non-conference play against a pair of teams from out west this weekend as it hosts Long Beach State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Colorado College on Sunday at noon at Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies begin their longest homestand of the season, a four-game stretch, with a 2-3-2 record and a three-match unbeaten streak. With the benefit of a bye week sandwiched in-between the Huskies will be home in Storrs until Thursday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Tulsa, Okla.
Freshman Kess Elmore (Liverpool, England) has been on a tear lately with five goals in the past three games. She was named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday for her performance in last week’s win vs. Arkansas (game-winning goal) and tie vs. Fordham (scored both goals).
UConn has taken 82 shots on the season while the opponents have also taken 82 while holding a 38-30 corner kick advantage.
Long Beach State brings a 4-3-1 record into the Thursday game and has played three ranked teams – a win over #22 Northwestern and losses to #9 UCLA and #25 California.
Sophomore forward Katie Pingel is the leading scorer for LBSU with two goals and one assist for five points while senior forward Tori Bolden has a goal and three assist for five points.
Colorado College has a 3-3 record and plays at Yale on Friday before meeting the Huskies. Colorado College has won three of its last four games with wins over Albany, South Dakota and Army West Point.
Junior midfielder Lauren Milliet is the leading scorer on the team with three goals and an assist for seven points while junior forward Clara Richter has two goals and two assists for six points.
